Acupuncture is a frequently performed medical practice (between 3,000 and 4,000 doctors perform this skill). Adverse effects due to acupuncture practice are rare (less than 1/1000) and mostly are a vasovagal episode or local pain. However, some local bleeding or infection complications (such as perichondritis) need to be known about to allow the famiily doctor to intervene quickly if these happen.
