This news is based on the following article: Hao Y, Strosnider H, Balluz L, Qualters JR. Geographic variation in the association between ambient fine particulate matter (PM2,5) and low term birth weight in the United States. Environ Health Perspect 2016; 124: 250-5. doi: 10.1289/ehp.1408798

Two large-scale epidemiological studies provide new information about the association between exposure to particulate pollution during pregnancy and low birth weight. The first investigated geographic variation in this association in the United States. The second, combining data from eight European birth cohorts, found that sulfur was the most toxic of eight particulate constituents.
