This news is based on the following article: Vrijheid M, Casas M, Gascon M, Valvi D, Nieuwenhuijsen M. Environmental pollutants and child health - A review of recent concerns. Int J Hyg Environ Health 2016; 219: 331-49. doi: 10.1016/j.ijheh.2016.05.001
Based on recent epidemiological studies, reviews, and meta-analyses, this article provides a broad summary of current knowledge about the effects of various pre- and postnatal exposures on children's health. As more literature becomes available, the number of associations for which the level of proof is good or moderate increases. Among the further research needed, priority should be given to the follow-up of birth cohorts to assess the impact of developmental disorders caused by early exposures when these children reach adulthood.
