This news is based on the following article: Gascon M, Zijlema W, Vert C, White MP, Nieuwenhuijsen MJ. Outdoor blue spaces, human health and well-being: a systematic review of quantitative studies. Int J Hyg Environ Health 2017; 220: 1207-21. doi: 10.1016/j.ijheh.2017.08.004

This is the first review of quantitative data from 35 studies on the potential benefits of exposure to "blue spaces" (lakes, rivers, seas, etc.). The most fully documented associations concern mental health and physical activity. In view of the diverse opinions of this emerging literature, these authors recommend further research on the subject.
