The job of health risk assessors is to characterize the impact of multiple exposures and combined risks to facilitate appropriate pollution reduction initiatives. Identifying geographical exposure hotspots that may be linked to an accumulation of risk factors or environmental stressors requires robust methods and approaches adapted to the territory studied. This in turn necessitates access to data relating to both (1) the contamination of environmental media and (2) the associated stressor hazards, so that these different exposure variables can be combined. This work presents the various cumulative risk assessment methods used at the territorial level as tools for organizing and analyzing scientific information for a better characterization and quantification of the combined effects on human health of a set of environmental stressors in a given region.
