This news is based on the following article: Dumas-Mallet E, Smith A, Boraud T, Gonon F. Poor replication validity of biomedical association studies reported by newspapers. PLoS ONE 2017; 12(2): e0172650. doi:10.1371/journal.pone.0172650
The authors of this investigation analyzing newspaper coverage of information from epidemiological research show that journalists give wider coverage to studies with lifestyle (modifiable) risk factors and to those reporting new and positive results. Although these are often subsequently contradicted, the public is rarely informed.
