Obesity is a proven factor in male infertility, the mechanisms of which, however, remain imperfectly established. Bariatric surgery is widely used to remedy severe obesity and its complications. On the other hand, the effects of these procedures, as reported in the literature, are contradictory, both with regard to sperm parameters as well as markers of metabolic and hormonal functioning, or the number of births. The main reason for this is the small number of studies carried out on this subject, and the small number of staff engaged. Long-term monitoring of the Bariasperm cohort will no doubt clarify the usefulness of bariatric surgery to restore male fertility.
