The clinical notion of chronic delusions, through its passages from one language to another, reflects in its history the paradigm shifts at work in psychiatry as well as the different moments of hegemony of a given approach, which is often linked to a language and the spirit of its time. We retrace this historical journey, highlighting key moments, from Philippe Pinel to the DSM. It no longer seems relevant at a time when digitization has a tendency to replace the differences between the geniuses of the languages that have made its history and that of its clinic in favour of a digital form.
