Infectious diseases are constantly evolving for many reasons. New infectious agents are regularly discovered, mainly because of the development of methods of identification, including the molecular biology tools and mass spectrometry. Changes in the epidemiology of infectious diseases are not always explainable but several factors undoubtedly play an important role, notably impact of vaccination implementation, the consequences of antibiotic therapies and their excessive use and natural history of pathogenic agents. Antibiotic resistance is recognized as one of the major challenges for humanity and few molecules have been developed in recent years. The rationalization of antibiotic treatment is a key for reducing antimicrobial resistance.
