Basal cell carcinomas (BCC), squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) and actinic keratosis (AK) are traditionally named “non-melanoma skin cancers” for the exclusive purpose of distinguishing them from melanoma [1], which reflects a historical under-appreciation of their importance [2].
