Medical care for lesbian couples is part of a scientific consensus acknowledging the positive outcome for children raised without a father. ART physicians should therefore, also assume their role as scientist, by disseminating this information to the population and policy makers, in order to build a society free of discrimination based on sexual orientation. A large number of European countries, as well as numerous American States and Canada, provide a legal framework to homosexual parenting, conducive to a good integration of the difference. The multidisciplinary counselling for same sex parents may be considered as precautionary principle. The medical treatment by artificial insemination with donor sperm (AID) must consider the specificity of these fertile couples, keeping in mind that age remains the main prognostic factor in a situation where the prognosis is overall more favorable than for infertile couples.
