The various expressions of burnout, its prevention and its current context underline the silent epidemic and the long-standing denial of the medical profession and public authorities towards the suffering at work of some caregivers. Various initiatives and proposals of prevention are emerging, often inspired by experiments carried out abroad, almost all the countries in the world being affected by this problem. But the evolution of law which is required is yet not there and the way to go to help doctors stay healthy or cope with illness and suffering still seems important.

What is the extent of this problem among caregivers? How can we define, locate and evaluate burnout? Numerous publications shed light on this suffering linked to work which long remained a taboo.
