Adding to the growing literature, this cross-sectional study supports the value of green spaces in towns and cities to combat childhood obesity. The observation that the mother's level of education has a modifying effect on the relation between the importance of surrounding green spaces and risk of overweight or obesity calls for further exploration of the role of psychosocial factors.
