This news is based on the following article: Desbiolles A, Roudier C, Goria S, et al. Cancer incidence in adults living in the vicinity of nuclear power plants in France, based on data from the French Network of Cancer Registries. Int J Cancer 2018 ; 142 : 899-909. doi : 10.1002/ijc.31116

This first investigation into the cancer risk among adults living near nuclear power plants in France covered seven plants and 12 types of diagnoses. It found no excess risk of malignant blood diseases or solid cancers, with the exception of bladder cancer. Inversely, women appeared to have a lower than expected incidence of thyroid cancer. An explanation for these observations must be sought.
