Bénéfices des modes de déplacement actifs versus risques de l’exposition à la pollution atmosphérique* Volume 15, issue 5, September-October 2016

* This news is based on the following article: Tainio M, de Nazelle A, Götschi T, et al.Can air pollution negate the health benefits of cycling and walking ? Prev Med, 2016 ; 87: 233-6.doi: 10.1016/j.ypmed.2016.02.002

This modelling study shows that the reduced risk of all-cause mortality linked to walking or cycling almost always outweighs the higher risk from increased inhalation of fine particulates and justifies promoting active travel modes in urban areas. Cycling might however be dangerous in a small number of the world's most polluted cities.
