Leaf transpiration and photosynthesis may be described by analogy to electrical laws, using flux, concentrations and resistances. The efficiency of water use is determined for the leaves of different plants: C 3, C 4, CAM. Global concepts such as yield and evapotranspiration are introduced later along with their interrelationships, and water use is computed from soil water content. These simple models are discussed. The paper concludes by discussing efficient water use when ressources are limited.
