Conservative treatment of talar dislocation: two cases reports Volume 22, issue 4, Décembre 2006

Dislocation of the talus is a rare and serious injury. The functional prognosis is poor because of osteonecrosis of the talus, which occurs in the majority of cases. The authors report two cases of talar dislocation treated in the department of orthopaedic surgery of the University Hospital Hassan II in Fez, Morocco. One involved a closed anterolateral dislocation, while the other an open anteromedial dislocation with a tear in the posterior tibial artery. The two patients underwent emergency reduction by external manipulation, including repair of the medial capsular ligamentous structures in the anteromedial dislocation case. At the most recent follow-up examinations, the two ankles were painless, stable, and had satisfactory mobility, without radiological signs of necrosis.
