Lateral tibiotarsal dislocation without fracture. A case report and review of the literature Volume 23, issue 1, Avril 2007

Pure tibiotarsal dislocation is an extremely rare traumatic injury, the medial type occurring most frequently. The authors report an open, pure, lateral tibiotarsal dislocation in a 35-year-old woman resulting from a four-meter fall. Reduction was performed promptly in the emergency room, with plasty of the medial capsular-ligament. Immobilisation by below-knee plaster cast was applied for 8 weeks, followed by physical therapy. After one year, the functional outcome was good, with a painless, stable ankle and satisfactory mobility.
