IntroductionThe main objective of our project was to build an information transfer strategy concerning drugs dispensed to out-patients. A first step consisted in creating drug information leaflets for patients. The second step was to build, with a standardized methodology, a model of drug information leaflet for healthcare professionals to improve their relevance to enhance safe and efficient drugs dispensation to patients.MethodologyUsing a reading grid, we analyzed the design and scientific background of the existing documents from a literature review.ResultsEight documents were analysed. The design of the leaflets integrated colors (6 supports), pictograms (2) and a hierarchical data organization using charts (3). These drugs specification sheets generally resumed the Summary of Product Characteristics, except for pharmacokinetic properties and specific biological or clinical follow-up. However, targeted recommendations in case of a missed dose were never mentioned. Author and date of last update were available in most of the documents but none of them mentioned references.ConclusionOur comparative analysis allowed us to elaborate a model of tool intended for the healthcare professionals. This model was implemented for 67 information sheets concerning 12 drugs categories dispensed to out-patients. A double validation of the sheets (pharmacists, physicians) allowed us to standardize the information linked to the patient.
