Transgenic mice as effecient tools in the analysis of gene functions Volume 3, issue 4, Juillet - Août 1997

Ever more sophisticated techniques have been developed to analyse the function of genes in vivo. Production of transgenic mice using microinjection of eggs with cloned genes has been a valuable tool in the analysis of gene function or regulatory regions. Although the rapid expansion of gene targeting using homologous recombination has sometimes erased part of this initial contribution, these two techniques are now tightly overlaped thus making possible our understanding of complex biological mechanisms. The aim of this review is to provide an insight into the enormous possibilities of transgenesis by presenting the techniques and their recent achievements.
