Agroforestry is of paramount importance in arid regions where crop production is very insecure due to variable and harsh climatic conditions. Agroforestry can mitigate the impact and consequences of these environmental limiting factors. Prevalent agroforestry models in arid areas of Rajasthan are described and suggested methods of improvement are presented. Time-honoured suitable agroforestry models for the region are discussed. Soil enrichment in water, geobiogene elements and nutrients from various species of trees and the consecutive crop yield increase in various models are quantified.
