Droughts can be forecast and sensed in the same way as the weather, with the same degree of precision or error, and to the same extent in time. Water deficit can be detected in variations of the atmospheric circulation. On the other hand, to understand why a drought lasts, the atmosphere/superficial ground layer, vegetable layer and ocean/ice field temperature systems must be studied. This provides climatic models enabling droughts in various regions to be understood.
