Since acute ischemic stroke is considered as a potentially treatable medical emergency, a rapid and reliable diagnosis must be made. Thanks to recent improvements and advances in both MRI and CT multimodal modalities, crucial informations can be provided regarding tissue injury, vessel status and cerebral perfusion. At the moment, MRI is the method of choice because it offers more precise pathophysiological informations. However, major progresses have recently been made in CT technology, and perfusion CT can now provide accurate informations. Moreover, CT is most widely available and less time consuming than MRI.
