Separation situations of the small child from its mother and/or father, highlight to what extent it is difficult to reconcile the need of protection that which is both physical and psychical while at the same time taking into account the effects of separation on both the child and parents. This article, written on the occasion of reflection during publicized departmental meetings proposes to establish benchmarks regarding the needs of child to be respected in order for it to grow between two families. It seemed interesting to describe events in a dynamic way: the baby is building and its development leads us to simultaneously take into account its need for continuity with its close intrauterine past and its current needs, especially in terms of attachment and what must be looked out for in order to protect the future parent as well as what the child will perhaps eventually become someday.
