Support in the case of babies handed over at birth: helping the host family to become an adoptive familyThe mental life of a baby is inextricably linked with the recognition by parental figures or their substitutes of its specific needs, with constant readjustment, a respect for its own particular rhythm and sufficient and containing continuity. This is how a baby will construct the first outlines of its psychic life. The aim of the service is to set up and maintain a space for the child (in whatever circumstances) away from their host family and their own family (biological parents), in which respect for their person and their background is guaranteed. This in turn demands a respect for their speech and limits. The institution has the task of ensuring this respect since it is acting as guarantor of the project for the child.
