On the basis of selected observations from psychoanalytical and psychiatric literature and from our own clinical experience, we endeavour to elaborate on the concept of white factors introduced in a previous article. To be precise, we question a notion prevalent in most clinical observation concerning the triggering of delirium in manic-depressive psychosis, namely that white factors often, if not always, represent events empty of meaning but with a certain nuisance value.
