De l’étude clinique à la pratique quotidienne Volume 81, issue 2, Février 2005

From clinical study to daily practice.Contrary to popular wisdom, premarketing clinical trials can predict the efficacy of psychotropic medicines in normal practice. What is required is a thorough study of the files. A relative reduction of symptomatology can often be found, revealed by quite low deltas, as can a variable efficacy from one patient to another, as can be seen in the, often numerous, “trial discharges”. Likewise, the maintaining of long-term efficacy is often relative. The large number of patients studied has the effect of attenuating these average results, which are significant despite showing little difference from the placebo. Lastly, side-effects are on the whole dealt with. Exceptional side effects, though, are only revealed with use.
