Flu viruses, also called influenza viruses, are negative-sense single stranded segmented RNA viruses belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family (from the Greek words orthós for straight, and mýxa for mucus). Influenza A viruses (IAV) genome consist of eight segments in total, with each harbouring one or more viral genes.
