In 1975, Mills and Kligman used the term ‘acne mechanica’ for the first time,to define inflammatory cutaneous lesions that resulted from mechanical injury. For the authors, acne mechanica designated local exacerbations in acne patients due to pressure, friction, rubbing, squeezing or stretching.
