Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease of unknown cause [1]. High mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) is released by necrotic cells which is believed to promote the induction of inflammation [2], however, the inflammatory role of HMGB1 in LP is still unknown.HMGB1 is a non-histone protein that is present in the nuclear matrix of mammalian cells [3].
