The palmoplantar keratodermas consist of a complex heterogeneous group of dermatoses in which there is hyperkeratosis of the skin over the palms and soles. Acquired and inherited forms exist. To date the classification of inherited palmoplantar keratodermas is mainly based on clinical appearance and histology. In some cases a molecular based classification is already possible.
