Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an inflammatory cytokine produced by practically
every injured tissue and its expression is readily induced by infections,
endotoxins, and a variety of other cytokines, including tumor necrosis
factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), interferon (IFN)-gamma and interleukin-1 (IL-1).
