Despite very encouraging preliminary results, very few studies have been conducted to update the role of the intestinal microbiota in the initiation and maintenance of psychiatric disorders in humans. The techniques for studying intestinal dysbiosis are not yet widespread, but their cost is diminishing, and the growing interest in this area of research show great promises in new technical developments for the coming years.
