This first article focuses on the context and epidemiology of sleep deprivation. It would affect almost 30% of children and teenagers. Considering the different kind of consequences that may result and which are occasionally severe, the causes identification is substantial. Behavioral causes are incriminated in 75% of the cases, which allows many ways to fight this phenomenon. Owing to the significant frequency of child consultations, the family practitioner could play a major role into the sleep hygiene awareness of this population.
