Since 2007, the development of early clinical trials has been a priority at the Gustave Roussy Institute. In 2013, a dedicated unit was created: the DITEP (Département d’innovation thérapeutique et des essais précoces) to provide patients with access to innovative drugs. A clinical operational unit (SOP2) within the DITEP is responsible for the establishment of early clinical trials, the management of patients included, as well as the quality of data and smooth running of the trials. The complexity of these trials based on the numerous examinations according to protocol and the specific management of patients included has led to the creation of a new role: “Clinical research medical assistant”.
