Introduction: Research has suggested that a protective association may exist between spiritual well-being and suicidal ideation among young people. Elucidating the role of spirituality in the mental health of young Tunisians would make it possible to implement effective preventive measures. Method: This is a descriptive cross-cutting study carried out among 303 Tunisian university students. The Suicidal Ideations Questionnaire, the Spiritual Well-being Scale and Beck's Depression Inventory were used. Results: Correlation analyses indicated that suicidal ideation was strongly and negatively correlated with spiritual well-being scores and social support scores. À positive association was found between suicidal ideation and depression and despair. Conclusion: Our results testified to the complex nature of the relationship between spirituality and suicide. Future studies on the relationship between these two entities could be useful in the development of youth suicide prevention strategies.
