This news is based on the following article: Bolden AL, Schultz K, Pelch KE, Kwiatkowski CF. Exploring the endocrine activity of air pollutants associated with unconventional oil and gas extraction. Environ Health 2018 ; 17(1) : 26. doi : 10.1186/s12940-018-0368-z.
Based on a non-exhaustive list of air pollutants generated by extracting unconventional hydrocarbon from sites in the United States, the authors of this study have identified 34 potentially endocrine-disruptive pollutants. While inviting the scientific community to use their work as a basis for further research, they emphasize the urgent need to protect the people living near these increasingly numerous polluting facilities.
