This news is based on the following article: Park SH, Ha E, Hong YS, Park H. Serum levels of persistent organic pollutants and insulin secretion among children age 7-9 years: a prospective cohort study. Environ Health Perspect 2016; 124: 1924-30. doi.org/10.1289/EHP147
This study of Korean children supports the hypothesis that exposure to persistent organic pollutants affects the risk of developing type-2 diabetes. It points to reduced insulin secretory function as a possible cause that should be further explored.
