The environment is polluted by substances likely to modify thyroid hormone secretions, which play a key role in regulating the metabolism, ossification, myocardial contractility, and in the growth and differentiation of neurons. They also affect fetal growth. Authors of this article indicate that thyroid function disruption is a public health risk and we need to understand how it occurs.
