A 65-year-old Chinese man presented with a six-day history of multiple painful vesicles and erythema on his head, trunk, upper limbs and buttock. The lesions first involved his left upper limb, left chest and interscapular region (the left C4~T1 dermatome) (figure 1A, B), then sporadic asymptomatic vesicles developed on the face, waist, right buttock and right forearm (figure 1C, D).
