A 77-year-old woman with a four-month history of an asymptomatic perianal lesion was referred to our department because of “treatment-resistant perianal candidiasis”. Physical examination revealed a round, well-demarcated, erythematous plaque involving the perianal skin, with an erosive, exudative surface (figure 1A). No perianal fistulae were observed.
