Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune skin disorder characterized by the presence of intraepidermal blisters which easily rupture, because of acantholysis. Direct immunofluorescence (IF) detects deposits of autoantibodies against the intercellular substance and indirect IF detects circulating antibodies against surface antigens of epidermal cells.
