Levobupivacaine (LEV) and ropivacaine (ROP) are used widely as local anaesthetics in clinical practice due to their limited side effects, significant sensory/motor separation, and long duration of action [1-3]. However, both substances have been incriminated to reduce viability of chondrocytes in vitro and trigger apoptosis in corneal endothelial cells in vivo[4, 5].
