A 38-year-old Caucasian man presented with a brownish asymptomatic longitudinal band on the left thumbnail, which had appeared following trauma one year before. Physical examination revealed a 2-mm wide, longitudinal erythematous band (erythronychia), associated with longitudinal splinter haemorrhages (figure 1A).
