There is a worldwide increase in the incidence of cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM). The mortality rate is also increasing, in spite of improved prognosis for individual cases [1]. In Scandinavia, the lifetime risk of developing CMM is 1%, with the highest rates of incidence and mortality in Norway [2].
