BP is an auto-immune blistering skin disease characterized by the production of antibodies directed against hemidesmosome components of the basement membrane zone. The targeted antigens are two proteins with molecular masses of 230 kD, BP antigen 1 (BPAG1) and 180 kD, BP antigen 2 (BPAG2).
