INTRODUCTION alpha2-macroglobulin (A2M) is a typical acute phase protein in several mammalian species, such as rabbit, rat and mouse [1, 2]. In humans, A2M does not behave as an acute phase protein [1], and A2M levels in man are not diagnostic for disease [3]. Its synthesis increases several-fold upon stimulation of rabbits or rats with inducers of an acute phase reaction, e.g. turpentine oil, or cytokines, e.g. interleukin-1 (IL-1) [...]
