Arterial embolization is undergoing significant development illustrated by the increasing indications to various medicosurgical fields. Over the past 45 years, interventional radiology research has developed many embolic agents that, depending on their nature, may allow permanent or temporary occlusion. However, in emerging countries, interventional radiology is struggling to develop, because the necessary embolic agents are not accessible because of economic or availability reasons. A preliminary study showed that embolization by absorbable suture (AS) and non-absorbable suture (NAS) is feasible, safe and effective in the medium-term in a swine model. A complete recanalization of arterial targets after embolization with AS and a partial recanalization after embolization with NAS were objectified. Histological analysis demonstrated the significant absence of inflammation parameters between AS and NAS. The Fair-Embo concept have the ambition to meet the demand for healthcare in emerging countries. With an encouraging first feasibility study, we will detail the vascular mechanisms, indications and technique of Fair-Embo, and finally we will detail the future prospects.
