Lower limb venous ablation techniques are, at the present time, much lighter than in the past, with a low rate of morbidity and almost perfect published results. Consequently, the role of compression therapy as an adjunct to decrease adverse-effects and/or improve results is much reduced. Studies show that the duration of compression is now less than a week, the pressure less than 30 mmHg and stockings are preferred to bandages. No study demonstrated any reduction rate of thrombosis using compression and whatever the technique, the short term results are not ameliorated under compression therapy. Conversely, post-ablation pain, which is low, is reduced using compression.
