The present paper aims to show the advantages of physical modelling as a tool to understanding and preventing the filling-in of channels by windblown sand. After a brief theoretical reminder of the principles of aeolian transport, the experimental modelling set-up (wind tunnel) is described. Possible similarity criteria are then listed, and a selection proposed. Results contributing towards a better design of the Daounas channel are given.
